Once a month we like to take a look under the hood and investigate the engine that makes CDC Small Business Finance run the way it does. It’s the people that make our company successful and our borrowers happy. Read on to get a quick insight into the work and life of Cici Brown-Reed, a stellar CDC Loan Processor.
Q1: In 5 sentences or less, could give us an overview of what your job position is and how you interact with borrowers on a daily basis?
A: I am responsible for working directly with the bank and borrower to collect all of the necessary financial and corporate documentation needed for the underwriting and funding process. I also work with the CDC loan officer to ensure that the loan has met all of the SBA requirements regarding compliance so that we may obtain the SBA debenture guarantee.
Q2: Cici, we’ve heard the heard the reviews and some say you’re pretty darn good at what you do. What is it that distinguishes a good loan processor?
A: I believe what distinguishes me as a good processor is that I take the time to listen to my borrowers and let them express any concerns or issues they may be having. It is very important that you exercise patience with people during the loan process as it can seem very overwhelming. It means a lot to my borrowers that I don’t just view them as a loan-number, but as a human being. I treat each borrower as they were my only borrower and do my very best to make the process as painless as possible.
Q3: Excellent answer. What is your favorite part about the job?
A: I absolutely love the people that I work with. In any life situation if you have a great support system, you can’t help but be successful. I believe the people that I work want to be successful, not only as an individual, but as a whole organization. I believe that makes a huge difference in what you are able to accomplish.
Q4: What inspires you to come to work everyday?
A: I love the fact that I play a role (some big, some small) in helping a complete stranger to achieve a lifelong goal. It never gets old having a borrower come back and tell you how much this means to them and how they appreciate how hard you worked in getting their deal done.
A: I believe that a woman’s hair is the picture frame around her face. You can have a beautiful painting, but if you just slap it on the wall without a frame, then you take away some of the value of its beauty. With that being said, a deep conditioning once a week never hurts. LOL
Q6: Finally, you help small business owners get the funding they need as quickly and stress-free as possible. If you could give 1 piece of advice to a business owner regarding how to make an SBA Loan go smoothly what would it be?
A: Keep all of your financials and corporate documents in a central location. It is amazing how many deals get held up do to missing financials and corporate documents.
Much thanks to Tricicia “Cici” Brown-Reed for giving us a little insight into what makes her tick and why her work contributes to making CDC Small Business Finance a great place.
